Where Glass Meets Wood!

Here is a collaboration between my husband and I. He turns wood on a lathe and makes these bird houses. I do the lampworking. So we decided to combine the two and this is what we came up with. The house is made from a piece of hedge from some land that I own and the top is apple that has been burnt with a torch. The perch is a little bit of twistie glass that I made as well as the tip is lampworked glass. It is about 6 1/2 inches long. We are thinking about making them and selling them online. Let me know what you think. :) Thanks Pam

What a cool birdhouse! I love the combined effect of wood and glass. What specied of bird is it designed for?

Ohhhhh Pam, you are on to something! Possibilities are endless when you start to think about it. Birdhouses, lighthouses, pots with glass flowers, etc. I'm sure you have seen all the little lampwork creatures in books, there are so many ideas! (I love the library)
Your color choice for this one works really well. The yellow is so bright and cheerful, but it's still subtle with the neutral tones of the glass next to it. That pop of blue and red color from the bird is a perfect choice. And the burned apple wood adds a rustic touch that makes the whole thing inviting as well. BEAUTIFUL Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

oops, sorry, I meant "green" color from the bird, not blue. :)
